I’ve written before about typography in web design and how we’re no longer limited to the the basic font stack of old – Arial, Times New Roman etc. We never used the first generation of type tricks – image replacement technology because at the time it was generally considered to be bad for search, but with newer tools, we find ourselves opening up to newer fonts more and more. As designers, we’re excited about the progress that has been made in a relatively short time and are excited about the future of web typography.

We do still get asked by clients if using these new font tools has a negative effect on search; most people don’t want to sacrifice search results positioning in the name of a wider font selection. Naturally we were happy to hear from Google’s Matt Cutts that they do not penalize good font replacement.
